Best way to care for soapstone counters. Finally after all these years!
I finally found the best product to care for my soapstone counters after all the years.

Love my beautiful soapstone counters and farm sink.  I have had them for about 20 years, long before farm sinks were popular.  But the downside of this lovely natural stone is that it is soft, it needs to be oiled or waxed regularly to keep it looking blackish.  ( or varying degrees of dark grey).  I always used mineral oil before but it doesn’t last that long and it is pretty slimy for days after you apply it.  It looks good for a week or two and then it needs to be done again.

For years I had been coating my soapstone counters with mineral oil and once we even covered them with some kind of sealer (didn’t work).  Recently my friend, Diane, told me she was using this product called Clapham’s Beeswax Salad Bowl Finish.  I bought it from Amazon and tried it out.  I have been using it for about a year now.  It has really renewed my counters.  It makes them blacker, and it lasts longer than the mineral oil.  The wax also helps to repel water and keeps the counters from absorbing as much water.

The added benefit of the Clapham’s Beeswax is that it feels really good on your hands.  I just grab a good amount of the buttery soft wax with a paper towel and rub it on the counters.  It goes on easily and spreads well.  It lasts for about a month in my kitchen.  It needs to be redone as I am speaking.  I am thinking of buying the larger size next time.
