Using Traditional Furniture in a Modern Home

What do those of us who love traditional American made furniture do when decorating styles change?

I love figured mahogany woods and tiger maple, antiques and colonial reproductions.  The American made furnishings of old and from more recent years are so beautifully made of real wood from mostly American trees.  The quality of the pieces are unsurpassed.  The price of these pieces is so reasonable now because there is alot of it and not as much demand for it.  The only thing is that if  you want American made you have to go vintage.  There are only a couple of furniture companies that still make their furniture in the USA and they are ultra expensive.

Well one philosphy is:  What was once in style will always come back.  And this philosphy is proven by the word “traditional”.  Traditional doesn’t go out of style, it may be more popular during different periods but it is always beautiful and pleasing.

Using more modern paint colors on the walls of a home with traditional colonial furnishings helps to make it feel more up to date and modern.  This paint is Benjamin Moore Wedgwood Grey with Behr “Gull” on the trim.  Also I think black accent pieces never go out of style and look great in any room.

Keep your decorative accessories to a minimum to give your home a bit of an updated feel.  Hang artwork close to the furniture it is realting too.  Use brighter colors on the wall and take your wall to wall carpet off if possible.

All of the modern style magazines show wood antiques mixed in with a modern room.  Here a slant front desk/bookcase is a focal point in a room with modern furnishings with a traditional flare.

So don’t give up on your love for fine wood furnishings with banding, flaming and beautiful grains.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
