Brocante! What does it mean?

“Brocante” means Second Hand  in French!

In the USA we call it Vintage, Shabby Chic or Repurposed if it is referring to home decor.


The idea of French Brocante is a more romantic term for using vintage pieces to decorate out homes. Found objects which are used in unusual ways bring a certain mystery and whimsy to any home.

Many Brocante themed interiors are primarily white or grey.  Furniture is usually painted in whites, creams and beiges.  Or often it is grey from age and nature.   This may contain: two chairs are facing each other in front of a fireplace


Rusty cages and baskets are repurposed as treasured accents. This may contain: a basket filled with metal cups sitting on top of a grass covered ground next to a plant


Second hand shops in France are called Brocante.  It sure sounds better in French doesn’t it?

Maybe its the way collections are displayed that makes this style so endearing. This may contain: there are many potted plants on the ledge

 

 

 

The cosmopolitan French serve their wine on Brocante.

A French Market sounds a lot more appealing than a Flea Market! This may contain: an old wooden cabinet filled with pots and pans


 

 


Food served from Brocante just tastes better. This may contain: a dining room table with plates and vases on it

 

 


 

The French Brocante look isn’t limited to the interior of a home. This may contain: two white chairs sitting on top of a rug in a living room next to a dresser
